The Bite of the Day: 100 years ... and counting?
I became a Cubs fans at a very young age. Thanks, in part, to my grandmother who would always have their games on TV (WGN) as she took care of my three sisters and I while growing up. I remember my freshman year in high school, back in '84, my shop teacher brought in the TV, so that we can skip our regular class to watch the first playoff game against the Padres. How exciting it was in the beginning of the series ... how painful it was to watch at the very end. I remember '89 ... I remember '98 and most recently '03 ... just 5 outs aways .... so close ... ugh!!! And what makes it even more frustrating, the Red Sox and our south side brothers, White Sox end their long world series droughts the next two seasons. As we enter the 100th anniversary of the 1908 Cubs world series, I start to wonder ... do I really want the Cubs to win the big one? No more "loveable losers" fun ... No more stories of the Billy Goat curse or the collapse of '69. Yes, the city will go crazy (for a long long time, I pray that the city would be ready for such an event) if my Cubbies would go all the way and win the world series. But what happens afterward? Will it be the beginning of the end of Cub nation?
